How can we encourage ‘Systems thinking’ in a simple way ?
From disconnection to connection, from linear to circular, silos to emergence. All in all, when the sum is greater than the whole is what is systems thinking all about.
So to begin with, what are the advantages of systems thinking , this could range from creating a continuous loop of feedback which connects one component of the system with another. Another advantage of systems thinking could be breaking the silos of any organisation and going towards emergence and new possibilities. Silos of departments working in silence is a problem many organisations face today. Specially when it comes to the leadership of an organisation, it is extremely important that these silos are broken and they are in sync to drive the organisation towards a common objective.
Not only amongst leaders, but in an environment like today where organisations are becoming more and more horizontal and flat, we require more of cross functional and self- managed teams who work simultaneously.
Another current requirement which definitely requires breaking of silos and merging is the multigenerational workforce. So, what could be a powerful way of bringing in systems thinking in a very organic and interesting way to encourage interaction? It could be the ‘story telling’ sessions whether formal or informal, which are passed from one colleague to another specially the ones who have been in the organisation for longer. When these stories get passed ,a powerful bonding emerges which could definitely encourage systems thinking in the organisation.
